Magic Moon

I was asked to create a bottlecap pendant by my friend "Betty" for one of her friends. I created the pendant with the bottlecaps she provided. Then I thought to myself that I couldn't just hand over the necklace, I needed to come up with some kind of unique packaging for these types of pendants. I put on my thinking cap and voila...

... a small matchbox is the perfect size.

I wrapped Washi tape around the drawer of the box and created a small pull tab. It is difficult to see on the photos.

And then she said "Look at this."...

Had a great day at "Mom Camp" digging through "junque stores", eating "junque food" and witnessing a young mom back her minivan into a beautiful, little, illegally parked MG convertible.

Here are my treasures...
One of my favorite games as a child was Chinese checkers. I found this metal game board to adorn my family room wall.

Another throw back to my childhood days.

Game pieces for jewelry?

Animals for assemblages.

I have always wanted an old box camera. It can be great for display, but I do want to research further and try to get some film. Anyone who can point me in the right direction, please comment or send me an email.

Time to rewind a little. Here is the front of the shop with a "lovely lady", in an unnatural pose, wearing a vintage dress. The seemingly endless store had dressed mannequins positioned throughout the spaces. I'm not a fan of mannequins, it felt a little like the movie "I Am Legend".

One hour into the store,(mind you, not quite halfway through) my partner in crime, Betty Bricolage says uneasily "Look at this" she is holding this little guy...brace yourself, you can't "un-see" this...

(scroll slowly)

proceed with caution...

(Cue the slasher movie music)
He is flopping in her hands like a dead baby chimp with staring eyes. "Oh look, they have a girl too."

There is a lady sitting in an office just on the other side of this wall, so we are trying not to be too loud. Luckily, I had my camera with me...

You're welcome.

Oh, I did get Betty back by pointing this out to her...

Sweet dreams!

Charmingly Chic

I was totally inspired to get back into making jewelry after creating my steampunk necklace from the previous post. I was thinking of objects to turn into steampunk charms.

Bottlecaps are popular, but I didn't want to go down the same old road of inserting a picture into the underside. So using pliers, I worked at crimping the edges inward so the cap would be more charm like. Then I decided to place 2 caps back to back and soldered the 2 pieces together to make a double-sided charm. Some caps are the same on both sides, some are different.

Most of these still need to have holes drilled to be able to use on chains. A little wire and some beads complete the charm.

Ready to wear.

Steampunk Style

Camera appears to be back amongst the living.

Lately I have been intrigued by the steampunk style. Here is my attempt at creating a steampunk necklace. The bird cage, octopus pendant and scrabble piece were purchased. The key is one of five belonging to my husband for the gun cabinet he made. The worn out dog license belonged to my muse, Tillie. I have received many compliments while wearing this piece... which kind of surprised my hubby. He's having "issues" with me wearing an old dog license around my neck.
